Last year, a coalition of bloggers came together to remember those we lost on September 11, 2001 and I was fortunate enough at that time to be given forty-five year old Raymond R. York who was a 20-year veteran of the New York Fire Department as my tributee.
Although, the coalition does not have as organized an effort this year, I have still been thinking about Ray as the date approached and I wanted to remember him again this year. Periodically, I check his Legacy Guest Book when I am notified that new entries have been made by those that also remember him throughout the year.
So - this entry is for Ray and all of the others that lost their lives that day. My blog will again be silent for one week in honor of his memory.

A Fireman's Prayer
When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage;
Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it is too late
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me.
To guard my every neighbor and protect his property.
And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life;
Please bless with your protecting hand, my children and my wife.
